Christmas Goat 2014

When we  received the Samaritan's Purse Christmas Gift Catalogue a few months ago we let Owen pick out a gift he would like our family to purchase for someone in need.  After looking through the catalog Owen chose the gift of a goat!  In the catalogue they say that, "Samaritan's Purse helps struggling families get the most out of their land by getting them started with goats or other dairy animals.  The nutritional advantages of fresh milk every day are obvious, especially for growing children.  Dairy animals can also be a dependable source of income, as extra milk can be sold to raise money for school fees, clothes, and medical expenses.  As our staff offer training and basic veterinary care, we build relationships with the families that earn us opportunities to share the Gospel."

We were all very excited about saving up for a Christmas goat after learning how much a goat can help a family in need.  I began brainstorming some ideas we could do at home to be creative in saving up for a goat.

After much thought, I had the idea to use the sticks that Owen likes to collect on our back porch to make a few Christmas trees to sell.  We made 5 crafts from the sticks he collected!

We saved our money in a jar and and are thankful for the others who bought our crafts to help with the goat contribution!  We carefully tracked our money on a visual chart so Owen could see the progress as the weeks passed.

We have now reached our goal to buy a goat and have purchased it!  THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO HELPED US REACH OUR GOAL TO BUY A GOAT FOR CHRISTMAS!  We are so excited about the thought of a goat going to a family in need!  Buying a goat can be a lot of fun!
